| The thing that I was most looking forward to was buying my first wand. According to my parents (one of which had bought their wand at Ollivander, the other bought their first wand at Trove of Tartarus (a wand shop in Knockturn Alley) the wand chose the wizard. I didn't entirely believe this myself, having researched in books about Druid Wandlore. But if that is what actually happened, I didn't really mind. I just wanted a wand to own for myself. Walking into Ollivanders, I could see shelves upon shelves of wands. It was a dusty old shop, but you could tell that this shop had a great magical history to it. "Hello my dear," said a voice. I looked up to see Ollivander staring at me. "Buying your first wand?" "Yes, sir." I said eagerly. He picked up a tape measure and came down from the stairs. "Wand-arm?" he asked and I pointed to my right arm. He began taking measurements and when he was (finally) finished, he grabbed a couple of boxes containing wands. "Beechwood, dragon heartstring, 7 inches, very flexible." He handed the first wand to me and I gave it a wave, behind me I heard the smashing of a glass window. Ollivander shook his head and handed me another wand, "Alderwood, centaur tailhair, 10 and a half inches, whippy." Waving this wand, a pile of wood that was stacked neatly, burst into flames. "Defiantly not." He said. After trying another three or four wands, we finally found the right one. "Ivy, phoenix feather, 8 inches, moderatley flexible." Once he had placed the wand into my hand, it started to feel incredibly warm. Ollivander nodded to me, indicating that this was the one. I reached into my purse and pulled out seven sickles and four knuts and handed them to Ollivander. Happily, I skipped out of the shop to tell my parents about how I had gotten my wand. | |
