The word Petrificus Totalus is an alteration of “totally petrify”.

The complete Body-Bind annoyance, this spell causes the victim’s body to go entirely inflexible, with their arms stuck by their side and their legs snapped jointly. The single object that they can still move about at the same time as in the pressure of the magic is their eyes. This annoyance has been used on various occasions during the series. It was first seen when Hermione to some extent regretfully cast it on Neville at the end of their first year, when Neville was trying to discontinue the trio going to recover the Philosopher’s Stone. Neville seemed none the inferior for his suffering afterward, and was much admired when Dumbledore gave him 10 House Points for standing up to them, which gained Gryffindor the House Cup.

Several years later, Harry used the annoyance to superior result on various occasions during the clash at the section of Mysteries. Antonin Dolohov in particular must have been cursing the day Harry learnt the mean, as he became sufferer to it two times.

Hermione used the annoyance to superior result in the bar on Tottenham Court Road when she, Harry and Ron were attacked by Thorfinn Rowle and Antonin Dolohov. She strike Dolohov with it after Rowle had been surprised, allowing the three to run away to Grimmauld Place. Voldemort also cast it on Neville Longbottom through the clash of Hogwarts, after which he put the Sorting Hat on Neville’s head and put fire to it.

Many people considered the Disarming Charm to be the signature spell of Harry Potter. Despite being taught it by the teacher he despised the most (Severus Snape, until the events of 1997), Harry found it quite useful and utilised it often in direct confrontation with another wizard. He became highly proficient with it in 1994 when practising for the Triwizard Tournament. At the end of the tournament, after he and Cedric Diggory were transported to the graveyard in Little Hangleton and Cedric was murdered, Harry faced the newly-restored Lord Voldemort in a duel. Voldemort used the Killing Curse and Harry used the Disarming Charm. Due to the natural brotherhood of Harry's wand and Voldemort's wand, both containing cores from the same source (that source being Fawkes, the pet Phoenix of Albus Dumbledore), both duellers' spells proved ineffective, creating the rare Priori Incantatem effect which greatly contributed to Harry's subsequent escape.

Many Death Eaters witnessed this, and took to believing that it was Harry's signature move. In the Battle over Little Whinging, they identified him as the real Harry Potter out of the "seven Potters" once he used the Disarming Charm against the Imperiused Stan Shunpike. Remus Lupin later chided Harry for using Expelliarmus in battle conditions, but Harry continued to value it; his argument being that hitting Stan with a stunning spell, as Lupin had suggested, could have ultimately killed him after falling from such a height. In his final duel with Voldemort during the Battle of Hogwarts, Harry again used a Disarming Charm against Voldemort's Killing Curse, repeating the event of 1994 with the exception of a Priori Incantatem effect taking place. This time, it was Harry's rightful ownership of the Elder Wand, being wrongly used by Voldemort, that led to Harry's victory. A property of the Elder Wand, it seems, is that it will refuse to physically harm its true master. Should it be forced to do so, as Voldemort did, the spell cast from the wand will have a mild to no effect on the target. Hence, upon meeting Harry's Disarming Charm in mid-air, the Killing Curse intended for the latter, rebounded on Voldemort, killing him immediately.

The Disarming Charm can vary in colour and in its precise effects. Sometimes, it manifests as a "jet of red light", and knocks the victim backwards as well as disarms him or her. This is what happened to Viktor Krum in 1995. On other occasions, the charm does not have a colour, and instead simply makes a wand fly from the victim's hand. When Severus Snape cast the spell on Gilderoy Lockhart, it was shown as a scarlet ring surrounding the wand, with a streak of scarlet light heading towards Lockhart.
When Cho spoke the incantation incorrectly, Expellimellius, it set her friend Marietta Edgecombe's sleeve on fire. Sometimes when the spell is done weakly but not incorrectly it can make someones hair just stand on end or blow them back a few paces.

Alohomora is a simple charm that causes almost any locked door or chest to open but they can be bewitched so the spell has no effect. This charm is described in the Standard Book of Spells, Grade 1, Chapter 7. The word literally translates to "friendly to thieves." To perform this charm one touches their wand to the lock and says, "Alohomora."

Hermione Granger used this charm to open the door that led to Fluffy, the three-headed dog, hidden on the third floor of Hogwarts. Alohomora is also used by Healers to enter the Janus Thickey Ward at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. It enables the Healers to enter but keeps the patients from exiting.

In an excellent example of how intention affects magic, Ron used this spell to make a mountain troll's club levitate, then crash back onto its own head, even though the "wing" portion of the spell seems specific to feathers.

Harry cast this on the sidecar after it broke off from the flying motorbike.

Ron cast this on a twig to move it into position to press the place at the roots of the Whomping Willow to make it hold still, clearing the way to the tunnel leading to the Shrieking Shack.

"Thank You Professor..." Logan said as he bowed to his teacher. He heard Prof. Flitwicks question. Again he stood up and answered the question.

"Well for me, the charm itself is very helpful indeed, like for some reasons, the charm can only be casted if the caster must think of an extremely happy memory." He said as he took a deep breath.

"There are two known uses for the Patronus charm. The first and main use of the Patronus is to drive off certain Dark creatures such as Dementors and Lethifolds, and is the only known charm that will work against them. As Dementors feed on happy memories to render humans to drown in sorrow and sadness, the Patronus acts as a shield of sort, of which the Dementor would try to feed off of instead. A non-corporeal Patronus only impedes Dementors, while a full-fledged one can drive them away. The other use was devised by none other than Albus Dumbledore, who invented a way of using the Patronus to deliver messages. This source of communication is believed to be exclusive to the members of the Order of the Phoenix. Using the Patronus for communication offers great advantages in security, as Patronuses identify the caster and are Dark-proof." Thinking of this answer was still not connected to the question. He think of another.

"Well. if anyone of you was confused to my answer. Situations such as when you encounter a Dementor of Lethifolds. Or a situation for when your patronus' deliver your messages but still this communication is strictly for the members of the Order of the Pheonix." Logan said, happy for what he answered.

EXPECTO PATRONUM



The "Expecto Patronum" spell is a very powerful and protective spell. The spell is conjured with an act of positivity. Love, Joy, Happiness, etc. The Patronus is almost god like with no negative emotions, the feelings that are based upon humans themselves or evil creatures, such as Dementors.
The spell, when summoned, will protect its witch or wizard host with a glimmer of said, " Silver mystic light". This light will fade out once its duty to the wizard is no longer needed. The most astonishing aspect of this charm is the way it portrays itself to the witch or wizard. The light will cast the form of an animal that best suits the witch or wizard. It is believe to be an animal spirit guide.
Expecto Patronum is not a spell for first year students, because this spell takes a lot of effort, concentration, and practice. When done correctly, the spell has the ability to ward off any evil entities and any other creatures of dark impressions.

1. The Summoning Charm "Accio!"

Info : The Summoning Charm "Accio" , is a charm that causes any object at a distance from the caster's reach to fly into his/her arms.The Caster must know the accurate area of that particular object if he/she wants to summon it , it does not matter how far the object is, as long as you have it clearly in your mind, you should be able to summon it easily.

Pronunciation : Accio [Ah-kee-oh]

2. The Banishing Charm "Depulso!"

Info : The Banishing Charm "Depulso" , Is opposite of the summoning Charm , "Accio" is a charm , which sends an objects away. Just like accio , the Caster must know the accurate area of that particular object if he/she wants to send an object away , it doesn't matter how far the object is, as long as you have it clearly in your mind, you should be able to throw/send it away easily.

Pronunciation : Depulso [de-PUHL-so] (Pronounce the "PUHL" harder)

Alohomora
Causes doors to unlock. This is how Hermione, Harry and Ron got in to meet Fluffy.
Used to open and/or unlock doors,but doors can be bewitched so that this spell has no effect.
Where is it used on?: Used throughout the series, with the first use by Hermione in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone . Used gradually less in the series as the characters discover more and more doors, chests, etc. with counter-charms on them. (For example, the doors into Professor Snape's and Professor Umbridge's offices are mentioned as being Alohomora -proof.
Analusis: One has to wonder about the usefulness of having locks at all in the Wizarding world. The unlocking spell is so simple that a 12-year-old girl can work it, and it is apparently taught as part of the first year curriculum at Hogwarts; and artifacts (such as Sirius' knife) exist that will unlock even those locks that are charmed against the unlocking spell. From a Muggle point of view, we must assume that an ordinary lock, in the Wizarding world, is similar to a Muggle Yale lock that can be slipped with a credit card; basic security and not much more. If the Alohomora countercharm is used, the security is more that of a bolt lock, with Sirius' knife being akin to more specialized lock-picking gear; presumably, that knife would be controlled by Ministry law, or purchased outside of the legal system. And finally there are high-security locks, such as those at the Ministry (one of which actually melts Sirius' knife) and the vaults at Gringotts.

Avada Kedavra

Description: Causes a jet of green (blue in the 6th film) light, and a rushing noise; the curse causes instant death to the victim (With the exception of Sirius Black, who lives momentarily when struck in the arm in the fifth film). It leaves no mark of death. There is no known counter-curse or blocking spell (with the exception of the curse striking another Avada Kedavra spell mid-flight, negating both), although the caster can be interrupted, the victim can dodge the curse, hide behind solid objects (which burst into flame when hit by it), or, if the casting wizard is not sufficiently competent, the curse may be completely ineffective as described by Barty Crouch Jr (acting as Alastor Moody) in Goblet of Fire. It is one of the three Unforgivable Curses; the use of this spell on another human being can earn the caster a life sentence in Azkaban.

Survivors: Only two people in the history of the magical world are known to have survived the killing curse – Harry Potter and Voldemort who was only saved by his horcrux. Harry was hit twice directly. Phoenixes can also survive a killing curse. They burst into flame, as they would do in old age and are reborn from the ashes. This occurred in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Used on: First said (not by name) at the beginning of the first book when Harry arrives at the Dursley's home. Nearly cast on Harry by Lucius Malfoy near the end of the second film. First seen in Goblet of Fire against Muggle Frank Bryce, and in every book following.

Well i dont know much about potions or curses as i do charms. And they seem like charms when i read them .

If I'm not wrong , Avada Kedavra , is a "Killing Curse" which actually causes , erm...instant death?
And if I'm not wrong it's one of the forbidden curses as well.

Ahh yes i see what you mean it is forbidden from the ofrum and is also a curse. I will deduct points from Grythindor for usuage of a curse.
