| Lilly was at the front of the room when the students shuffled into her class.
"Ok, in this class we will be learning about protective spells" she said from the banister by her office. "Can you please give me one example, and how it works/its incantation/motion/etc.?"

| Protective Spells: Patronus Charm,Fidelius Charm,Shield Charm,Protego Totalum,Protego Duo,Protego Horribilis,Salvio Hexia,Silver Shield,Cave Inimicum
Patronus Charm:: A Patronus Charm is an insubstantial animal protector created by the advanced Patronus Charm spell, and one way to defend against Dementors and certain other Dark creatures. The spell requires the use of a wand, concentration on a powerfully happy memory, and the incantation "Expecto Patronum". Presumably, certain physical gestures with the wand are also required, but they have not been specified. The Patronus Charm is advanced magic and difficult to master, especially in emotionally difficult circumstances. However self-confidence may also play an important role in casting the spell. Fidelius Charm:: The Fidelius Charm is a complex and powerful spell that allows someone or something to be hidden from the sight of anyone besides specific individuals for an indefinite period of time. Those specific people are the Secret-Keeper and the individuals to whom the Secret-Keeper reveals the information. The secret being hidden is stored within the very soul of the Secret-Keeper. Only they have the power to reveal the secret; not even those who have been told the secret can reveal what they know. The information may be passed on through words or writing. If someone has not been given the information, they will be unable to locate the hidden secret, even if they are staring right at it. When the Secret-Keeper dies, everyone who has been told the secret becomes a Secret-Keeper. If the Secret-Keeper dies without having revealed the secret to anyone, then the secret dies with them, forever. The information will be hidden for all time (unless, of course, there were multiple secret-keepers before the death). It is unknown if coercive methods to have the Secret-Keeper reveal the location (such as Veritaserum or the Imperius Curse) would work.Incantation:fih-DAY-lee-us Shield Charm: The Shield Charm is a charm that creates a magical barrier which deflects minor to moderate hexes as well as physical objects. Spells will sometimes rebound off it directly back towards their caster. Other times they will ricochet off in other directions or dissipate as soon as they hit the shield, or around the caster's sides. It will not repel any effectively cast Unforgivable Curse. The incantation for this spell is Protego. The Shield Charm is a moderately difficult spell. The Shield Charm has several variants, such as the Protego Duo, Protego Horribilis, and Protego Totalum.Incantation:pro-TAY-goh Protego Totalum: Protego Totalum was the incantation for the defensive spell used to protect a small area from most other spells for extended periods. It formed a protective "bubble" around the area it was cast Incantationin:.pro-TAY-goh/prah-TEH-go toh-TAH-lum Protego Duo: Protego Duo is a charm that is the more powerful version of the Shield Charm.Incantation:Protego Duo (Pro-teh-GOH Du-OH) Protego Horribilis: Protego Horribilis is type of Shield Charm which protects an area against highly Dark Magic. Incantation:pro-TAY-goh horr-uh-BIHL-ihs Salvio Hexia: The effects of the spell Salvio Hexia are not completely understood, but it is believed to deflect hexes. Silver Shield: Produces a silver shield around the caster. It is presumably much stronger than the standard Protego Shield.Used against from weak to extremely powerful spells. Cave Inimicum: Cave Inimicum is a defensive spell which serves to warn of approaching intruders. Incintation: KAH-vay ih-nih-MIH-kum.

| Protective spells are, I think a very powerful and important type of magic. There are lots of different spells that can be used for protection. Most commonly used, the Shield charm. The incantation for this perticular spell is 'Protego'. It can be used for a lot of spells. Mostly charms, but it can also be used to protect thing from things other then magic. If someone were to punch you, you could use this charm and they would not be able to hurt you. This spell can not protect you from everything, you must be aware of that. Another protective spell is the Fidelius charm. In my opinion this is very advanced, not because it is hard to preform, but because you might choose the wrong person. Someone will use the Fidelius charm to make a secret-keeper. If you choose a secret-keeper to hold a secret of yours, no one but the secret-keeper can tell the secret, even if they know it. The secret-keeper cannot be forced to tell the secret. They will only tell it if they want to. If the secret-keeper dies before telling anybody, the secret will never be told. The Patronus charm is very advanced magic. It usually takes quite a long time to master. The Patronus charm does not protect you from spells, it protects you from the guardians of Azkaban: Dementors. The incantation for it is "Expecto Patronum." But you can not produce a Patronus with just the incantation. You need a happy thought. And not just any happy thought, a really happy thought. If your thought isn't powerful enough, your wand will just produce a misty white sheild. But if your thought is very powerful, you will make a full bodied Patronus. A full bodied Patronus is in the shape of an animal. That animal can change according to your personality and your thought. | |

| Well, These are both stellar, but regrettably for the other students there really isn't much new information to be added. With that being said, I will add a new assignment tomorrow(29/12/2010) in the afternoon.
(OOC: If it isn't updated by the end of the day it's because I was excruciatingly busy; I'm sorry)
